Job Title:  Volunteer Coordinator

Employment Status:  Independent Contractor

Compensation:  $10,000

Job Description:  

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing planning, scheduling and supervision of 100-150 volunteers who welcome and educate visitors on the local attractions as they arrive by cruise ship.  


  • Develops work schedules for volunteers who greet and educate cruise ship visitors at numerous locations within the City of Astoria

  • Supervises all volunteers to assure that they have the necessary training and resources  to accomplish their assignments in a manner that promotes positive interactions with all visitors

  • Recruit new volunteers and maintain the membership roster as directed

  • Plan the annual volunteer training events

  • Maintain the Clatsop Cruise Host web site, Facebook page, email and other social media sites as directed

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:    

  • basic computer skills and proficiency  in the use of email, word processing, data base and spreadsheets software applications

  • ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

  • ability to plan, manage and adjust to frequently changing priorities when cruise ships are in port

  • ability to relate with warmth to volunteers and visitors and use conflict resolution when necessary to diffuse difficult situations 


  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age

  • Previous experience supervising volunteers or employees

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license or ability to provide an alternate form of transportation

  • Must be able to pass a national background check
